In the midst of sorrow

I sit with her while she weeps. Her heart is broken and her dreams are dashed. I know there is nothing I can say, no promise I can make, or plan I can offer to fix this for her. It does appear that all is lost and hope is empty.

I open the Bible to read. Not to her but to myself. To search for the peace that makes my presence a source of comfort. I can’t explain why God does what He does. I can’t make sense out of pain and sorrow.

I don’t know why it seems as if prayers are ignored or miracles are for others, just not for you.

All I do know is where to go to feed my spirit and fan my faith. I turn to the only unchanging declaration of who God is and pick up the written word and remind myself that this is where God speaks personally to me.

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 (ESV)

I read to know Him. I read to become personally acquainted with His character and to become reverently familiar. I find myself becoming encouraged even if perplexed.

I move a little closer to His heart and He whispers assurance and hope.

If I know living hope then I can share living hope.

“As for God , His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.” Psalms 18:30 (NKJV)

The way life is taking you today feels like a perfect disaster. But if you will continue to walk with God, He will show you his perfect way to navigate the journey.

His word cannot fail. It may not come to pass when you think it should and in my personal experiences, things rarely look like I thought they would, but He has the last word—the best word because it is the proven word.

And while the circumstances are falling apart and your emotional security is under siege, hide yourself in Him.

He will be there for you and your heart, mind, and spirit will grow to trust Him more and more.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your steps.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)

Things are not what they appear to be when you place them in the security of God’s hand! Try it!!!

Let me know how I can pray for you.
