Pass the burden
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
Do you remember when you had to carry your suitcase or duffle bag without the aid of rollers? The last set of luggage I purchased has four wheels on each piece. I call it my pet suitcase because it almost follows me; it rolls so smoothly! Gone are the days of dragging, pushing, lugging, and heaving heavy, burdensome suitcases.
Are you burdened with the cares and concerns of life? Do you feel as if you are carting a load of worries and anxieties around on your heart and in your head? Are you tired, depleted, and exhausted? Wouldn't you like to declare, “Gone are the days of dragging, pushing, lugging, and heaving my burdensome problems”?
Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
There it is—an open invitation to find rest from your burdens.
It’s time for us to stop being the devil’s pack mules. He loads us with cares, fears, burdens, and distractions. He piles on guilt, regret, condemnation, and then says, “pull this heavy load all day long, every single day.” I’m reminded of the scenes in mountainous regions of the world where defenseless donkeys toil their way up the steep and slippery slopes loaded with heavy and burdensome weights. The sole purpose of their existence is to transport heavy loads until their lives are done. Unfortunately, too many believers are also living like beasts of burden. It's a sad picture of living beneath our spiritual benefits and does little to draw others to the Burden-bearer.
