Invest in eternity

We’re bombarded with disturbing news from every corner of the globe, and these events often weigh heavily on our hearts. Even in the church, the pervasive sense of uncertainty can be overwhelming.

“Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:1-4 (NIV)

This passage reminds us not to be disheartened by the apparent success of the ungodly. Their prosperity is a temporary illusion. It doesn't last long.

No matter what the days hold, no matter the struggle now, I want to encourage you to do these things:

  • Trust in the Lord

Trust is established in relationship. Building trust requires honesty, openness, integrity, and transparency. You only trust someone when you really know them. Growing in trust with the Lord is intimately tied to His faithfulness.

  • Do Good

In the face of stress and temptation to compromise our principles, we must continue doing what is right in God's sight. Resist shortcuts or giving up. Keep your eyes on Him.

  • Dwell in the Land

Stop trying to find greener pastures or to move on from this hard place. While God has you here, dwell—settle into this place to learn and grow. God can bless you in the desert, in the wilderness, in prison, in exile, in a cave, in enemy territory, in a war zone, and in the valley. It doesn’t matter what life circumstance you’re in.

  • Feed on His Faithfulness

Our faith needs nourishment, and the truth found in God's Word is the source of its growth and strength. Just as faith comes from hearing the message about Christ (Romans 10:17, NIV), our faith is sustained by feeding on God's faithfulness, not merely His gifts to us.

  • Delight in the Lord

And He will give you the desires of your heart.

God's faithfulness is unchanging.

God cannot, will not mismanage your life. Who’s your manager? How’s it working for you?  He will not harm you or allow destruction to consume you. He will turn pain, sorrow, disappointment, and fear into sources of blessing.

“If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot disown himself.” 2 Timothy 2:13 (NIV)

Teach your heart to desire what He desires. Know His heart and yield yours to Him. Spend your energy investing in eternity. You must commit to earn a return and expend for future benefits.

Trust in the Lord, do good, dwell where you are, and feed on His faithfulness.

Your investments in faith and righteousness will lead to an eternal inheritance and a lasting peace that transcends the chaos of this world.

“For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.” Psalm 37:9 (NIV)
