Complaining

Complaining overwhelms the spirit.

“I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.” Psalm 77:3 (NIV)

It cancels words of life and releases death and destruction. Complaining kills. We see this in Psalm 106.

“Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his promise.” Psalm 106:24 (NIV)

This verse is referring to the Israelites after they were delivered from Egypt and God had done miracles and wonders among them in the wilderness. They were ungrateful and despised the pleasant land He brought them into.

The root sin here is unbelief. They didn’t believe God’s words. They complained in their tents and did not heed the voice of the Lord. They were disobedient.

You may not like where you are today, but if God is with you it is a pleasant place.

Unthankful and ungrateful attitudes and words create unbelief and undermine the power and authority of God's Word in your life.

Complaining is negative, bitter, resentful, untrue words being spoken within your home, your relationships, your workplace.

Your words are releasing death into the atmosphere.

This is blatant disobedience and rebellion because you are rejecting God’s lordship and leadership.

What would it look like if we traded our complaining for grateful hearts and humble spirits and focused our energy on hearing the voice of the Lord?

“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.” Philippians 2:14-16 (NIV)
