Walking in faith
Your works don’t get God’s attention. Your walk of faith is what He’s looking at.
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” Philippians 3:12 (NIV)
Walking is second nature to us now, but when we were young, it was a process. We needed a steady hand to hold, guiding us through wobbly steps. At first, we were unsure, unsteady, and easily thrown off balance. We fell. We stumbled. We grew frustrated. But over time, we gained confidence. The strong hand that once lifted us up eventually stepped back, staying close but allowing us to walk on our own. It was always there—waiting, ready, but never forcing. We had to choose to reach for it.
Some days, I move forward with confidence. Other days, I find myself crawling—tempted to retreat to what once felt safer, easier, more familiar. And sometimes, I’m simply wandering, distracted, moving without purpose. But God’s hand never leaves. When I reach for Him, I find Him right where He has always been.
“Have you not brought this on yourselves by forsaking the Lord your God when he led you in the way?” Jeremiah 2:17 (NIV)
Before we can walk in the Spirit, we must first learn how to stand. Our spiritual growth is a process, much like learning to walk.
Sitting
Before we can move forward, we must learn to be still. This is where our foundation is formed—where we soak in His presence, listen to His voice, and let His truth shape us from the inside out. The deeper our roots go in Him, the stronger and steadier we will be when we stand and walk.
Standing
Strength is built in the unseen moments of discipline and trust. We stabilize as we lean on His Word, developing the core strength we need to walk.
Walking
The call to live by faith requires action. As we take steps forward, led by the Spirit, we begin to move in obedience and trust.
“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16 (NIV)
Running
The race set before us requires endurance, faith, and a heart fully surrendered to Him.
