Something greater
There’s a mystery and beauty in marveling at something far greater than ourselves. When we lift our eyes to God's towering majesty, we’re enabled to reach beyond our human limits. The fear of the Lord—the awe-filled reverence for who He is—grounds us, transforms us, and ultimately brings us closer to Him.
The fear of the Lord is linked to contentment.
“Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.” Proverbs 14:26 (NIV)
“The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.” Proverbs 19:23 (NIV)
The fear of the Lord brings confidence.
“Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.” Proverbs 14:26 (NIV)
The fear of the Lord brings blessing.
“Blessed is the one who always trembles before God, but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble.” Proverbs 28:14 (NIV)
The fear of the Lord ensures spiritual safety.
“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.” Proverbs 29:25 (NIV)
The fear of the Lord leads to praise and adoration.
“You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel!” Psalm 22:23 (NIV)
In a world consumed with self-focus, we desperately need the discipline of self-forgetful worship. We need to lift our eyes and hearts to God’s majesty and learn the joyful practice of fearing the Lord.
When I reflect on God’s glory, I’m reminded: His primary goal is not to make me feel better about myself. His goal is for me to bring glory to His name.
In that truth, we find freedom. Being preoccupied with ourselves is a distraction, but fearing the Lord opens the door to true confidence, blessing, and peace.
