Sojourning souls

Let's talk about what it means to be spiritual sojourners in this world, eagerly awaiting our true home.

“‘The land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine; for you are strangers and sojourners with Me.” Leviticus 25:23 (NKJV)

We’re unattached travelers.

Reflect on the imagery of strangers and sojourners: unfamiliar, untethered, possessing nothing. We're holding only temporary visas in this earthly realm, transient travelers passing through.

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Philippians 3:20 (NIV)

We have heavenly citizenship. Our allegiance lies beyond this temporal existence.

“Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul.” 1 Peter 2:11 (NIV)

We are foreigners in a foreign land.

There is separation between us and the world's values because we are a chosen people set apart.

Drawing from international definitions, refugees are those fearing persecution, forced to leave their homeland. We too are pushed by allegiance to another realm, immigrants in this world, yet citizens of heaven.

Beware the traps of the enemy, seeking to ensnare us with worldly desires. He wants to trap you here in this temporary place.

This life is not permanent. It’s transitioning you.

While he cannot revoke our heavenly citizenship, he can rob us of the abundant life promised by God during our earthly sojourn.

“‘Make up your mind,’ Moab says. ‘Render a decision. Make your shadow like night—at high noon. Hide the fugitives, do not betray the refugees. Let the Moabite fugitives stay with you; be their shelter from the destroyer.’ The oppressor will come to an end, and destruction will cease; the aggressor will vanish from the land.”  Isaiah 16:3-4 (NIV)
